Both sides bring strong league form

Corinthians have taken 11 points from their last five league matches, winning against Gremio, Remo and Bragantino while drawing with Bahia and Athletico-PR. Their latest Serie A outing brought a 2-0 away victory over Bragantino. Cruzeiro have collected 10 points across their last five league games, including wins over Internacional, Coritiba and Mirassol. The visitors most recently beat Mirassol 3-1 before drawing 1-1 with Flamengo RJ in the Copa Libertadores play-offs.

Matheus Pereira among the recent standouts

Matheuzinho has been one of Corinthians' stronger recent performers from fullback, with Gabriel Paulista and Raniele also prominent. Cruzeiro have had several notable individual performers, led by attacking midfielder Matheus Pereira. Gerson, Fabricio Bruno and striker Kaio Jorge have also been among the visitors' stronger recent players.

Absences affect both squads

Corinthians are without Andre, Breno Bidon, Kayke, Labyad Zakaria, Vitinho and Yuri Alberto through injury. Breno Bidon has also been among the side's recent attacking performers. Cruzeiro have Cassio, Gabriel Pec, Sinisterra Luis and Villarreal Neyser unavailable through injury, while Kenji is absent because of yellow cards.

Recent meetings underline the balance

The broader recent head-to-head is evenly split: across the last ten meetings, Corinthians have three wins, Cruzeiro three and four have ended level. The latest meeting finished 1-1 at Cruzeiro, while Corinthians won the previous cup encounter 1-0. With just one point between the teams in the league and both producing solid recent results, neither side comes into this fixture with a clear advantage.
